Making the decision to Walk Away
Some of the most common reasons to quit tobacco include:
- The risk of illness and death caused by heart disease and lung related disorders are significantly lowered
- You can save from $700 to over $2000 annually from the purchase of tobacco
- You have less shortness of breath and coughing, enabling you to be more active
- You look and feel better and healthier
- You feel more energy and stamina
- You and everything around you smells fresher and cleaner
- You have a new sense of control over your life
Why is it so hard to stop smoking?
Two reasons. For one thing, smoking is a habit. And like all habits, it’s hard to break. Maybe you smoke in the car, or during breaks at work. Maybe you light up with a cup of coffee, or after a stressful situation. The bottom line is that smoking has become a ritual, a part of your daily life. As human beings, we love rituals, and we hate rebelling against our habits. Now, for the second reason. Not only is smoking a psychological habit, it’s also a physical addiction. In fact, about 90% of smokers are clinically addicted to smoking. Smoking provides a temporary high in the form of nicotine. Depriving your body of that nicotine fix causes physical withdrawal symptoms and severe cravings. When you’re faced with both psychological and physical discomfort, no wonder it’s so hard to quit
Why hypnosis works
Smoking cessation is the most popular medical use of hypnosis. Hypnosis helps a person learn to deeply relax, and then to be open to suggestions that strengthen your resolve to quit, and increase negative feelings toward cigarettes. Self-hypnosis is the natural extension of these tools, allowing the person to maintain the calm state developed in a hypnosis session. Guided imagery is similar to hypnosis, and involves creating negative images about smoking and positive pictures that help bolster the strength needed to quit.
Hypnosis breaks the tobacco connection
Hypnosis is an effective means of quitting because it not only eases the nicotine withdrawal but because it also removes the attachments to the smoking or chewing habit that make you want to start again. This is accomplished by communicating with the part of your mind where these attachments exist beyond the reach of your logical mind – the subconscious.
