Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is hypnosis? First, hypnosis is not sleeping. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. It is similar to driving down the freeway and not being able to recall a portion of the drive because you were preoccupied by other thoughts. You remain fully aware, and if something suddenly appeared in the roadway, you would still be able to react, but your mind is focused on something else. What is hypnotherapy? In hypnotherapy the conscious mind is bypassed, and the Hypnotherapist can then access the subconscious mind, which controls your automatic systems such as breathing and heart rate. This is also where your habits and emotions are. When you are in a deep state of relaxation the subconscious mind is highly receptive to new perspectives and ideas. The Hypnotherapist will use imagery and positive suggestions to help a client imagine and actually experience them self in the future as they desire to be. This makes the changes the client wants in their life happen much faster and with less resistance. What is hypnotherapy used for?
Hypnotherapy is a great way to relieve stress, overcome phobias or bad habits, weight management, for pain control, self-esteem and motivation, improve learning and sports performance, sleep, for anxiety and panic, surgery anxiety, childbirth, and many additional phenomenal ways of improving your well-being.
Is hypnosis dangerous?
There has never been a documented case of harm coming to anyone from the therapeutic use of hypnotism. There has never been a documented case of someone unable to come out of a hypnotic state.
Is hypnosis like what I see on television or in a stage show?
No. People who participate in stage shows do so willingly. No one can be hypnotized against their will. In fact, in 1958, the American Medical Association approved the use of hypnosis for treating physical and psychological disorders. They would not have approved it if it and had only entertainment value and did not have therapeutic value Will I lose control? The client remains in complete control the entire time. No one can be forced into hypnosis. A Hypnotherapist cannot make anyone do anything they do not want to do. You must be open to the suggestions given, otherwise you could ignore them. (All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.) Will I get stuck in hypnosis? No. If the Hypnotherapist were to leave the room, there are two possibilities. The first is, you would wonder why it suddenly got quiet and open your eyes. The second possibility is that you would fall asleep because you are so relaxed. When you were sufficiently rested, you would awaken and be fully alert. You remain in control, so there is no way to get stuck. Still have questions?
